Isn' this mostly a mid-west thing? Saying "pop" instead of soda? Sort of like how Californians always say "dude"...

When I go, "Excuse me.. what kinda pop do you carry?" I always get this look... hmm.. lord.. look at the time.. do I ever sleep?

Actually, what the do in the South is ask you what you'd like to drink...
Your choices are generally water, "coke" (meaning pop/soda/cola/whatever), and iced tea (sweet, of course).
Then, if you answer "coke" the waitron will ask you "what flavor"?
To which you respond, Pepsi, Coke, Mountain Dew, Dr. Pepper, etc.
Don't ask me how that got started, but when I went down there for graduate school it made me laugh every time someone asked me what flavor of coke I wanted...
