scotty! you fean =) we're in foul territory, if you touch the ball and it drops, aka, it's a foul, you can't run. *slaps you around with a large wet trout*
Andrea, don't be confused. =)

haha awesome, maybe I should leave this up to Erin and Taylor.
On any kick in the air, the runner is allowed to advance as soon as the ball is touched. So if you are tagged up on a pop fly, and the fielder bobbles the ball, as soon as they have touched it you can leave the base, you do not have to wait for them to have control of the ball.
Same rule applies with a ball in foul territory, as long as the ball is in the air, a tagging up runner can leave as soon as the fielder touches the ball. If the ball is dropped it is a just a foul and the runner has to return to the base.
That make more sense? Or should I retire from answering this stuff?

that's what I figured, as long a the fielder doesn't drop the ball in foul territory, the base runners can run once they have caught the ball

Thanks, Sh3lby! 2. Scottyg smells! 3. I thought that you had to wait until the fielder had control of the ball (i.e. definitely caught the ball) before tagging up? 3a. Not that it would matter for our team... we s.u.c.k.

Scottyg did a very nice job of summarizing this one...looks like someone should think about the Head Ref position next season...

It doesn't hurt to tag up and run on the first touch regardless.
If the ball gets bobbled but ends up being caught (whether fair or foul), you're already considered tagged up and can advance. If it gets dropped and the fielder was standing fair, the ball ends up being fair and you're already on your way. If it gets dropped and the fielder was standing foul, it's a foul and you slowly walk back to base.

No you dont have to wait, I think the major reason for this is that a fielder could bobble the ball all the way into the infield if you had to wait for them to have "control" of the ball.
even if you suck, knowing things like when you can tag up can mean more runs in the future.

well most out fielders manhandle the ball and don't flail around with it.. so there really isn't a period between when they touch the ball to where they have control over it. I just wanted to make sure runners could run on a foul ball that is caught. and I take that as a yes =)
I may just make this a part of the newsletter. Favorite Rules of the Week!
