yeh well it was a painful loss. Anyone who really understood the history behind the PSU/Notre Dame rivalry would understand and respect that. I will pounce when the time is right. Just need to hope my Lions rebound strong and what they need to to win. and I want to go on record as saying that NSD is one h&ll of a team. We have at least 2 All American linebackers who couldnt TOUCH Brady Quinn all day. the Irish are just that good.

Haha I knew it was coming. I'll take this response in steps to take care of it all clearly.
Nah I didn't go to ND, in fact I hate ND. I hate ND for the same reason I hate PSU, Nebraska, Ohio St. etc. cause they all get by on their name. Even when they're having s.hitty seasons they still get ranked or ranked higher than they should be (Nebraska in like 03 comes to mind when they had 4 losses like 2/3 the way through the season and were still ranked).
I'm a Maryland fan and alum and us on the TT premium forum have a certain gripe with PSU that's not entirely PSU's fault but is a major factor. We got our pockets picked with instate local talent (like Derrick Williams for example) by PSU based on false promises by their coaches (I believe on recent class had 8 D-linemen that were all told they would have a shot at starting as a freshman). Derrick Williams's father also spreads lies about Maryland to in-state recruits (I believe there was an accusation of the University being racist) because he was fired from his job there. There was also a highly-touted recruit who had an early commitment to Maryland, opened it up his senior year, held a press conference to announce his decision in which he invited associates of the Maryland football team and then announced he was going to PSU.
Lastly, a more personal experience was while I played on the men's club lacrosse team at Maryland. There had been a history between us and PSU before but this was somewhat unrelated. We were hosting a tournament and we were scheduled to play PSU at 7 pm (it was either one of the round robin games or the semifinals, I can't remember) and the PSU players told the refs that the game was a 6 pm. Well they lined up to play at 6pm while we started our warmups. So instead of waiting to play THEY LEFT THE TOURNAMENT TO GO HOME. Granted it got a nice forfeit win for us, it was still a dick move to try to get the game time changed. It was also about the 3rd time they had tried to change game times of tournaments we hosted.
And THAT'S why I hate PSU.

Walshy Walshy WAlshy,
1. Do you know FOR A FACT that these players were lied to by the coaches at PSU? I bet that I would have more accurate sources on that littel tidbit than you would. Our coaches usually stick to what they "promise"....even if it means a kid losing a red shirt. Case in point - Anthony Morelli. Great prospect coming out of High School...going to be great for us in the future. his father wanted him to "play right a way". OK so in his freshman year, we used him in 3...yes 3..plays. Not series. PLAYS. He waxsted his redshirt. He didnt want to take the redshirt after that, he wanted to play. the coaches knew they were wasting it, but had promised the kid and his family, and they stuck to that. Had they not, we would have him for another year after next, which we could really use.
2. PSU may have a big name, BUT in the past five or so years when we have been on a downslide, we were not ranked at all. NOw I will not claim to know what UMD was ranked, but I knwo that we werent even though about in the rankings. Possibly what you said about OSu and Nebraska is true, I dont know, I dont have the facts to check on that, but you are incorrect about PSU. We had quite a few very rough years, and paid for that in the polls AND in recruiting.
3. Recruiting - In the past we had one of the strongest recruiting coach staffs in the country. Jerry Sandusky and Fran Ganter, not to mention Joe Pa, were/are amazing recruiters. Currently we have the crack team of Mike McQueary, Jay Paterno, and Tom Bradley. With the exception of Bradley....the other two leave a LOT to be desired.
Anything else?

Absolute fact, no no I don't.
Though just looked it up in 02 and 03 PSU was ranked at the beginning of the season. Though also looking at the records, they didn't suck ass those years.
Either way, I'm still gonna hate, cause haterade is delicious.

1. I love being a spectator watching this... go Bella! (no offense, Walsh, but I didn't get to meet you on Sunday, so I don't really know you) 2. Unfortunately, some of these teams who have history of outstanding football do get by on their name, at least at the pre-season rankings... then, when they lose, they do drop to where they probably belong. You'll always find that in teams like ND, OSU, Nebraska, Oklahoma, FSU, Florida, etc. 3. Maryland does suffer from either weak recruiting or schools with better history (see #2) of football to further their careers/schooling. Maryland is stuck between PA/VA/Ohio, so it's within the range that schools are looking for. I know the Hokies get some decent players from MD. The Fridge even mentioned that in an interview last season maybe.... 4. I love that Bella numbered her points. Way to go.

1. thank you for the shout out Anwilli. I think that you will find that I have responded to Walsh's comments in a fair, knowledgeable and polite manner. And I bet you didnt expect that when you saw the vicious attack that Walsh put on my Lions. 2. You cannot blame the schools for getting by on their names. The voters make that decision, not the schools. 3. Recruiting - once again, I reiterate, recruiting is a harsh game. Its up to each school to hire and use the best recruiters that they can. You will find that Central PA has some amazing high school football programs....and PSU fails to recruit them. You cannot put limitations on where schools can recruit....and its a dog eat dog world out there. 4. Walsh, it has been my pleasure discussing this with you. We will meet some time and converse in person I am sure. (Don't you all like my very vocaburiffic entry?)

I guess it's a good thing I still have a cup laying around from lacrosse. Yeah we used to have a great head recuiter but can't remember what the hell his name is right now (pretty sure his last name was Franklin), he left to be a WR coach with the Packers a few years ago, dunno where he is now. Think he was the one who got us Merriman and Vernon Davis. We also should've had Victor Abiamiri (now a DE with ND) but a F O O King retard LB coach who was recruiting him named Ron Sharpless gave him like $100 worth of hats and shirts. Coach got kicked out and kid couldn't come here so he ended up at ND.
Recruiting is indeed a harsh and dirty game. We usually do pretty well in NJ also, and VT def picks our pocket at times from MD but they also have the hotspots of VA locked down hard. Hopefully Florida transfer Josh Portis will light up next year to help get some big name guys. Our back to back 5-6 seasons have not helped the cause. Looking for a big win against the hillbillies this thursday to help the cause and bring those bastards down
