Yeah. Good to see some respect for DC Star. Hopefully we keep it going.. maybe have some teams play in Regionals..
30-1? Geez Scott.. maybe in flipcup...

I gotta give much props to Sack and they did have a good run in the playoffs last year....
BUT...
I remember watching their games and they were all 5th inning, come from behind victories. WAY TOO CLOSE. Now if they can start pounding teams early on, I could definitely see them takin it all the way.
And also, they have actually given up runs this season. Now, that might say that the teams this season are better or Sack's defense has worsened.
Nonetheless, I will be there as Sack makes their play-off run, cheering them on!! Go Sack...go DC Star!!!

Also, another rules clarification
I know that D gave me an answer, but I just wanted to make sure, as the rules are not that clear
A ball kicked with / above the knee is a foul...
However, does that mean the play continues? Like the ball is kicked with the knee, and its a pop-fly...catch is made...OUT!! Or ball is kicked on the ground, runner gets to first base, but since he's safe...its a redo.
Or is it a foul ball and a re-kick occurs automatically, no matter what happens in the field? The kicker is out or safe....

You and me both! =) I would say if the ball is kicked above the knee but is still caught it's an out. just like if the ball was sent into foul ter but caught. 14. OUTS 14.02 An out is; 14.02b any kicked ball (fair or foul) that is caught;

Interesting idea....though I have to say most of the knee shots that I've seen dont make it very far, so tagging up isnt really an option.

Yes, but if you kick in front of the plate...play stops and it is a re-kick. Or at least that is what I've seen done by the head refs thus far...can't think of anyone in particular though
That is why I was confused about the knee kick rule...

yes that's a foul, if you call it a foul, it's a foul. and they have to replay. however this goes along side the catching the ball. if they do kick it in front of the box and someone catches it, I'm almost certain it's a fair out.

But if the pitcher/shortstop whoever is over the line on a pitch and its immedietly called a ball, thats all that it is, regardless of if the batter kick it....correct?

I'm feeling too lazy to double check the rules today (maybe donnie will), but the fielder past the 1st/3rd line is more of an exception compared to how other rules handle things. Past the line is instantly a dead ball, and a ball gets added to the count. No play can be made on the pitch. Any of the other kind of things (knee-kick, kicker in front of the plate, etc) is a foul. As far as I'm aware, the ball is still "live" in that it could be caught as a pop-up and an out recorded. In that case, yeah, a runner could tag-up just like they could any foul pop fly that's caught.

Here's what ScottyG said during our old "encroachment thread" from the time of that tournament:
--------- Encroachment and continuing play: Rules 8.02 and 8.03 involve the referee calling “ball” when a fielder plays forward the first-third base diagonal. When a referee calls “encroachment” the play is automatically a ball and the play is dead, regardless of how the kicker plays the ball.
That is from the WAKA newsletter, seems to solve our problem, or at least leaves it to the refs discretion. ---------
That was a correction from a previous Tip of the Month that had said what Shelby said. The technical rules never changed, but the latest WAKA interpretation was that of the newsletter... so that's what we're going with. (on a side note, it also makes the most sense... because refs never made the call fast enough for a kicker to stop their motion)

Um, not that its a big deal, but out of 16 games we played last year, there was only one (1) game in which we needed a come from behind victory.. and that was in Regionals against Gym Class All Stars.. in which we won 5-4 in the bottom of the fifth.. Just wanted to straighten that out. A win is a win i guess. Good Teams should do it all..to win big, hold on to close ones, and come back if necessary IMO...
