No no no....you are getting it all backwards, or perhaps sideways...as this was another related yet seperate occurance, where it was not an over throw...it was a dropped catch that was then booted towards the street by (to paraphrase the NHL) "A deliberate kicking motion" (or just by her feet while running) after dropping said ball from her hands.

For safetys sake, if it did have this fantastically awesome spin to land fair and then spin towards Constitution, I'd say its fair until it hits the road..which would then be most likely hitting a tourist or car, and be a dead ball. A fielder getting run over would most likely require much more than a dead ball call
If I may tack on a second question, deflection, throw, or kick towards a player or base...does this mean that if you try to peg a player out at 3rd, and it deflects off of them and far out of bounds, its a one base overthrow? I've seen it happen before and never been entirely sure of it.

ah my mistake tacos. I'd still go with the runners can keep running due to the fact there was no deliberate attempt to make a play on a runner or base. Something kind of similar happened in one of our games where I was playing third and tried to make a play on a ball near the foul line and missed the one handed catch and it went into foul territory. The runners could have kept going however I had collected the ball so they elected not to continue running.

Yeah I guess safety does matter...although we can surely sacrifice some tourists purely for humors sake.
As far as deflecting off a runner...I would have to say that would be considered a dead ball, the same as if you had missed the player altogether.

Soooo I have another ridiculous question, or so I think, but apparently not everyone shares my sentiment.
If a base runner is well running, and decides to foolishly slide please read as dive head first for the base, and a person throws the ball at them prior to them diving, please read as throws it at their feet (I clarify this for several reasons, however, I do find it absolutely funny as hell to see somebody trip and fall over the ball whidst running.) But I digress, so lets just say they dive (horribly) towards the base and they are struck in the head (because their head is now merely inches from the ground)....are they out, safe, somewhere in between, or just plain dumb??

I would say if they dive, the head is fair game and would be called as an out if stuck on the head.
Now that I think about it, that situation happen in our game against you! That dive wasn't that bad.

OUT and DUMB. We've already had that discussion back about three seasons ago. I think what we determined was that once you slide/dive all bets are off on the headshot... That's how Flame ON got its motto: AIM FOR THE HEAD!! That exact situation happened in our very first game against the LTFFs 12 Step!

You're right, the dive wasn't that bad....however diving head first is still a rather funny sight.

Definately an out, and not the best slide by Chris...I think the right call was made right away...but then players that were not captains tried to weigh in their opinions and it made it seem like an argument.
I slide head first because my knees are shot....its going to lead to a broken finger at some point.

I've seen it happen before and never been entirely sure of it. 1 base on an overthrow applies here just like if the throw missed the player completely, but it's good to have your outfielder back up 3rd base in case this happens ( tacos take note this is the opposite of what you thought). I believe this scenario is the exact purpose for the deflection rule, since it happens a lot. As for the slide, as has been said, it's an out (same as if it bounces off the ground before hitting someone in the head). Pudge got hit smack in the middle of his face when sliding last game and was out. But the big damage was to his leg for poor sliding technique. The constitution ave thing and fielders deliberately punting the ball... I just dunno.
