I'm all for blaming Marvin. I think I was the one that commented on your pitching Troy, and I stick by that. Once the 12 Step rookies learn how to play defense, the pitching will compliment nicely. Sheesh, even when we win, we get no credit. Our rookies represented beautifully on Sunday.

Excuse me? Vaunted Over-hand pitching? I never have pitched over-hand. I pitch submarine or underhand. However, because I don't want to cause controversy I've switch to totally under-hand, left-curving style. As the Dagger has mentioned, I could quite possibly be the hardest pitcher to kick against this season. You will come to feel my wrath on Sunday. I guarantee at least 2 foul outs and only a 4-kick game. I'll bet you a beer you give up more than 4 kicks and another beer that you don't get at least 2 foul outs and another beer that 12 step loses and a final beer that team keg wins.

I guess my ERA would be.....2.50
10 IP 5R
5*5/10 = 2.50
Meh....I'll take it. We will see how the rest of the season goes.

If you have an under 3 ERA, you should be winning games. Well, at least in baseball. That is where our offense kicks in. We scored 5 in the first game and 2 in the next two. Yikes.

Can someone explain what exactly an ERA is... I know it's not the Equal Rights Amendment and not being a true baseball fanatic, I have no clue.

If you have an under 3 ERA, you should be winning games. Well, at least in baseball. Yeah, but if we were to convert your ERAs to baseball, it looks a lot different. 9 * 5/10 = 4.50 (Troy) 9 * 6/11 = 4.91 (Marvin) Patrick -- it's Earned Run Average. It basically tells you how many runs you would expect a pitcher to give up over the course of a game if they pitched the whole thing. # of innings in a game (5 for kickball, 9 for baseball) * # earned runs allowed / # innings pitched

Ok, why are we doing 9 innings rather than the 5 we play for kickball? Is it just a way to give it a similarity to baseball??
So mine would be 9 * 4 / 15 = 2.4??
9 Innings in a game 4 Runs allowed 15 Innings pitched?
And for kickball: 5 * 4 / 15 = 1.0
Does that sound right?

Earned Run Average is calculated like this: (Number of Earned Runs x Number of Innings per Game) divided by (Number of Innings Pitched)
You use the number of innings in a game. So you would use 5 innings rather than 9 because that is all we play. Using baseball's 9 innings would not be correct because 5 innings is a complete game. Of course none of our ERA numbers will be exactly correct because we do not keep track of errors. Runners allowed on base or allowed to score because of errors do not count towards a pitcher's ERA.
