I hope most of you know what Mike & Mike in the morning is but Golic was talking about how he threw out the first pitch for a WAKA league (I guess up in CT or NY). If you can get to ESPN.com at work or just at home check the video player link for "Mike & Mike: First Pitch"

Walsh...can you just paste the link for the WAKA First Pitch thing. I'm too lazy to try and find it.

It was on the front page before...I'll try finding if there's a linkable thing for it. It might be in a flash page though.
Yeah, can't link to it. Go to ESPN.com, on the right side click "launch video player" and scroll down (the scroll bar is directly left of the video) and it should be near the bottom (5th from bottom at this point).

I also just read the article about them suing each other, as well as people's responses to the article.
Scott - You and Donnie are pretty kickball savvy...but since he's not on here, have you ever played in another league other than WAKA? Or know someone who has?
I'm still more or less a kickball rookie, but I don't think WAKA is bad at all. Maybe Star just rules :-) But I mean, whenever there is money involved, people are going to get greedy. Those four guys are running a business now, not just playing kickball, so they do have to look out for their own interests. I would think that if I was in their shoes, I'd probably be doing the same thing.
And lastly, I'd just like to say if they are pulling in millions of $$$ in dues...congrats to them...they're geniuses.

I think it runs the same across the board, I know people that play in both other divisions but as they are based upon the WAKA format its only little tweaks here and there on the setup. DC Kickball and NAKID have done a good job of providing incentives because they are trying to get a share on the market...and they can provide a little more individual attention as they have fewer divisions to deal with.
I think you are right Troy, what it comes down to is the divisions participation. From playing in Rock Creek and I assume almost the same for Adams Morgan, if the board (and thereby teams) arent participating the division wont be any good socially.
Its about the money of course....and at times I have issues with that, most recently the "you cant bring tents to the open tournament but you can rent the WAKA package for $300" deal they have going on.

You can't bring your own tents to the tournament? What else are they banning? Chairs, coolers with drinks? If I were going and I had a tent I'd tell them to go f.uck themselves, it's a public park I can have a tent if i want. Seriously. I'd take a tent pole and stick it up their ass. Who the hell do they think they are, trying to tell people what they can do at a public park?

Agreed, I'm not paying to rent something that I already own and the park that we are in allows us to have. 3+ games with an 11 man roster at this time of year are intense...and while they say that there is a player shade area, none of us quite understand why we cant have our own if they are allowing you to put up "rented" tents.
most teams are bringing their own, hopefully they'll all go up in protest.

Maybe hired goons are around to patrol for non-WAKA tents and they take em down or break legs.

I completely agree - it's all about the people. I have a friend who is really unhappy with her (non-WAKA division) and I know we're unhappy with Adams Morgan. It's about the local management and the way things are run, the people who are planning and going to events, and so forth. I think it's safe to assume that we're all very happy in DC Star even if it means we pay a little more because we like the people and the way things are traditionally run.

I agree on all counts, but I also think that DC Star would be a great division to play in no matter what league we were affiliated with. I believe that if WAKA got so bad we couldn't deal with it anymore, we'd be just as happy if we picked up all our toys and kickballs and went to say DCKickball...
