1) Anwilli: Ouch. that hurt. 2) Why does the bidding need to be anonymous. Did I miss something here? i dont think it needs to be anonymous -- i just said that because it seemed that someone had made that decision based on the "bid in a jar" system.

Agreed, why Anwilli? She's so surly sometimes. DAMN YOU PHOTOSHOP AND MISREPRESENTATIONAL ICONS!

I'm under the impression that it was set up to allow people to bid a little more anonymously on the person...of course if you win you get outted, but otherwise no one knows.
Maybe somone could check them every half hour or so and write what the top bid is at that point, still rather anonymous (except for the winner) and still raises the bids on people.
If that happens, Leslie should not be the person to check these....its too much gossip for her to handle.

From whence did this "bid in a jar" system come? from kim's email: To Bid on a Date: 1. The night of the EOS, our Emcee (The DC Star Madam) will introduce each hottie up for bidding and describe their dates 2. Each hottie's poster/flyer will be on display with a container in front of it. Write your bid on the cards provided and place the card in the container.3. At the end of the night, we will announce the lucky winners. Please bring cash or check to pay your pledge!

scotty, that's smart. but to keep bidding going, they'd have to be checked more often. i'd say like 10 mins. bid, drink, raise bid, drink, raise bid more, drink more, etc.

I believe the whole silent auction/bid in a jar type deal came from trying to avoid anyone getting embarrassed from standing up on stage and getting no bids or something similar.

great. so ... we have a double-blind, silent auction to spare everyone's sensitive feelings. .... since when does DC Star give a crap? if people want to do it, then they should abandon all insecurities and pride and just do it!

Smoggy and I talked with girl Taylor and I think they are changing the jar thing to a bid sheet next to each person's poster. That's technically what a silent auction is, anyway. Everyone can see the latest bid, but no one is actually on a stage while the bids are shout out at them.
Putting the bids in a jar is technically called a sealed-bid auction (I know, only economists care about these nuances), but for us this has the disadvantage of a) no one gets into any bidding wars (it is to raise money for charity, after all), and b) no one know's who's bid on whom until everything's announced, which could lead to a lot of "who the h.ell won me?!?"
And yes, since when did the division that puts pictures of itself drunk and hooking up on the internet suddenly get so insecure about putting itself out there in public?

Sorry I'm late to the game today - I'm temporarily without internet during the day and GT and DK don't usually check the boards But if anyone has any more specific questions, call or email me.

LOL. I'm right there with you, Lisa. You caught on to DC Star much faster than the usual rookie! ;D This is why these things aren't as good an idea as one thinks at first. I just hope that those being auctioned have thick skins. Now the questions is, if the jar remains empty all night, won't the auctionees still know they're not being bid on?

This will also allow bidders to make sure they don't win multiple dates. That could have been a messy end. And if you still want to have some sort of anonymity, assign everyone a bidding number and have then use that to bid. Granted if someone else sees them write it, that could blow it, but that part of the fun: Being stealthy.

I think it would be better if it were anonymous myself! That makes it more of a surprise and I love surprises.
Also, yes....who is on the docket for the date auction thus far? From my knowledge, here are tha playas:
Katie, Abby, Ashley (A 3-for-1, triple date) - 12 Step Troy (MAYBE) - 12 Step Kim - DBalls Jenn - S&A Leanne - S&A Jason Faberman - S&A Chris Wong - Keg Donnie - Take It Outside

i'm trying to get some of my players to auction themselves off.... because i KNOW kimmie has been waiting ALL SEASON to get her hands on long-haired alex!! ;D ("BIGGEST!!! MISTAKE!!! EVER!!!") ...but most of them are lame and never come to any dc star things, and then the ones that do are going to assateague island or some shaz like that. sounds a little "flame on" to me, but there it is.
