I agree that it's a bit early...but...Negotiating with bars for specials like the ones we get at our parties is hard. Most times they aren't going to want to cut us a deal when they could just fill up as they normally do and make more $$. Kickball parties are profitable for bars because they happen during slow hours when they wouldn't have that many customers anyway.
So yes, I don't particularly want to start drinking at 6 either (oh my god, what is happening to me?) but it's the compromise we make for 10 dollar all you can drink deals.
Think of it this way--you're only paying 10 dollars. Have a couple beers at the party, pace yourself wisely and consider it a warmup to whatever you'll do afterwards.
I know that I hardly the person to listen to when it comes to wise drinking strategies, because as well-meaning as I normally am, my plans always come undone once somebody starts pulling out the So-Co and lime shots.

ah jello shots, birth of multi-colored vomit. is there anyone who doesn't have a college story about someone having too many jello shots and then seeing a rainbow at night?

When Iiiiiiii was in college, we didn't have jelloshots. We had to drink Jungle Juice and like it! Oh, and we walked to school barefoot in the middle of winter uphill... BOTH WAYS!

Does anybody else think that starting the party at 6 is way to early? Yes, but only because I can't make the first half and will miss much free beer.

He said it was in the snow and barefoot, that screams Ice Age for which the dinosaurs weren't around. Now the Saber-tooth Tigers are a completely different story.
