Late to the party. But, not late for throwing some cash on tonight's Steeler/Miami game. 2006 SEASON RECORD (0-0) The current line I have is Pitt -1.5. I should have jumped on this yesterday when it was a pick'em or -1. Even with Big Ben out, I feel Charlie Batch will get the offense from making big mistakes at home. Pitt's defense will be geeked up for this. The champs will showcase to the world they will be ready to defend. Miami will be ready but too close to call this one so the home field advantage will come into play. PICK - STEELERS One and the baby hook. (-1.5) College and more NFL picks coming! Good luck this year!

Marvie, that was a semi-close call... I couldn't believe the Dolphins hung around and almost won! But, my pick 'em list is off to a good start with that win!

I have Heath Miller on all 3 of my fantasy teams so that 87 yd TD was a nice touch.

Steelers start me off on a winning note as they seal the deal. OVERALL 1-0 NFL (1-0) NCAA (0-0)
College Picks VT (-12.5) @ UNC UNC lost their home opener to Rutgers by 5 21-16. So UNC goes from an up and coming team like Rutgers to a powerhouse in VT, who did not give up a point to Northeastern. Northeastern? Either way the Hokies will be ready. I cannot see UNC getting up for this game. The over under is 41 so I can see a score pretty close until the end when VT gets their defensive TD to cover. PICK HOKIES (-12.5)
Penn St. @ ND (-7.5) This is a very tough game to call. Neither team really laid the smackdown in their opening games. PSU in the rain took care of business against Akron. The barely covered the 17.5 as the won 34-16. Over the last ten games PSU is 8-2 against the spread. ND on the other hand lost it fifth straight against the spread as the eeked out a win against Georgia Tech 14-10. ND, favored by 7 only had two good drives, but it was enough. The key will be limiting PSU mistakes. The ND offense is to powerful and will capitalize if PSU coughs up the ball. Going chalk again. PICK ND (-7.5) Sorry Blue....you still love me!
Middle Tenn St. @ Maryland (-22) I shouldn't even play this game. Maryland can play some real stinkers sometimes. They beat William & Mary but didn't look good doing it. PICK NO PICK
Arizona @ LSU (-15) This isn't UL Lafayette. But, this isn't Georgia either. Arizona making a long trip plus not covering their first game against BYU has me going for the Tigers. PICK LSU (-15)
New Hampshire @ Northwestern NO SPREAD LISTED I have to believe this is a cupcake. NO PICK
So my three winners - Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, LSU
Pro picks coming soon!

Preliminarily I'm feelin' Texas will put out the W against OSU.
Walsh - If you have a team you are affiliated with, like, etc., add that to the list... Marvie does the picks for some of us that have loyalties... Nittany Bella (PSU obviously), me (VT), Marvie/Troy (UMD), Drina (LSU), and Leslie/Annie (Northwestern)

PRO PICKS OVERALL (1-0)
Philly (-5.5) @ Houston Philly favored for this game? I am really liking the Texans even without Domanick Davis for the season. The new head coach Gary Kubiak was the off. coordinator at Denver. They smoked Philly 49-21 in Denver. Philly is getting hype again cuz of McNabb and his new toy Donte Stallworth. I am not sure that chemistry is there yet. Houstons D is not great but better than last year. I have to roll with the home dawg getting five and half glass of beer. PICK HOUSTON TEXANS +5.5
Dallas @ Jacksonville (-2) Two tough defenses tangle with the first offense to do anything wins. I dislike TO, hate the cowgirls. they have a shot in this game. TO needs the Dallas running game to determine if they can open him up. This is pick goes with the AFC's dominance over the NFC. Even with Fragile Fred Taylor, their offense finds a way to win. Unlike the Cowgirls who find a way to lose. PICK JACKSONVILLE (-2)
Indy Colts (-3) @ NY Giants Colts & Giants can score in bunches. A shootout is in the works as Peyton Manning get a chance to defeat his kid brother Eli.The Giants are one of the few NFC teams that match up well against the AFC (was 3-1 against the AFC west last year; including 2-0 at home). Look for Tiki to get the train going again as little brother Eli shows the nation there are two good Manning QBs int he NFL. PICK G-MEN (+3)
NFL Picks - Texans, Jaguars, & Giants Redskins-Vikings & Raiders/Chargers picks coming Monday....

BONUS COLLEGE PLAY! OSU @ TEXAS (-2.5)
What a line! Only 2.5? Watching the highlights of OSU kicking Northern Illinois tail, I noticed a very interesting stat. The NIU running back Garret Wolfe had almost 300 yards of total offense (171 Rushing & 114 Receiving). You have to be kidding me! How did OSU get ranked number one with a defense giving up yards like that? Texas is a shade better than NIU. Adding the home field advantage they will have, Texas should be favored by -7.5. This could be a trap game, but I am rolling with Texas. My Bonus Special - PICK TEXAS -2.5
Four college games to cash! VT, ND, LSU, & TEXAS

Marvin - I can't help but notice that your yahoo pick is for the Dolphins, making you 0-1 there. Please explain Also, I would take the Iggles even with the points. Now that the defense is healthy, they can bring back their blitzing (which they almost totally dropped last season). If the Bears could do so well last season, imagine the same but with a good quarterback. And I'll go with Dallas and Indy as well... so I guess I disagree with every pick. Knowing your record, that probably puts me in line to look stupid on Monday. Although I agree with the Texas pick for the exact reason you mentioned! Seems like a gold mine.

Dagger points out garret wolfe tearing up the OSU d, which is a good point, but wolfe is also possibly the best RB in the NCAA, which shouldn't be clouded by the fact he's on a MAC team. My affiliation (alumni status, whatever) is already covered with "marvie" and troy

I liked that Hollenbach didn't have any of the turnovers and the fumble by oquendo is semi excusable since he's young/inexperienced. Steffy scared me from the fact he couldn't get any points on the board. Most of the points put up against us were against the 3rd team D so I'm not too concerned there.
My greatest concern is not being able to even get on comcast sports net so I can actually watch the games live. At least we got thursday night next week.
