Once again, the Keggers utterly collapsed when confronted with the "married mojo" of 1829. Those married people and their babies sure know how to make TK fall apart. I think the final score was 10-4. Aside from totally kicking our behinds, 1829 was great fun to play, kudos to them on a strong season!

Recaps for Troy: I didn't see the Team Keg/1829 game.
In the other games, Below Us had a group of 4-5 kickers near the top of their order that got on base almost every time they were up. A couple speedy bunters followed by some guy who could absolutely rail the ball into the outfield. That's where they got most of their runs.
Sack vs. Below Us was a fairly boring match overall. No close reffing calls, nothing real exciting with two bunting teams. Sack got lots of base runners on 1st and 2nd with bunts, but could never get enough distance on the ball with the followup kickers. Below Us had a good 1st inning, and held on from there.
1829 vs. Below Us was the exact opposite. A very entertaining game with at least 4 sliding catches, a horrible (yet clean) collision at 1st, lots of close plays, and some great placement kicks from both teams. It should be noted that both teams have pitchers that generally throw kickable rolling balls, and that both teams had the most success while doing full kicks instead of bunts (each team had a rally inning that was almost bunt-free). It was definitely nice to see an "old-school" style game, and 1829 played very well in defeat. An excellent championship.
Overall, all teams were very good sports the whole day, and considering the nasty humid weather and typical playoff tensions, there was little to no yelling the whole time.
Finally, the downpour started 2 seconds before I reached my car parked near the Kennedy Center. I have no idea why parking was such a biatch that day.
Other notes: -Most of Below Us was at the DMB concert Saturday night so couldn't make the EOS.
-I'm trying to track down WAKA's fall schedule to find out when their tournaments are. That'll help determine our schedule, although I feel like our fall teams don't really care about that much (especially if they don't go back to the old regional/presidents cup tournament style). At the same time, it's tough to push games past October since it gets too cold.

Parking on Sunday sucked. I almost ran out of gas, and was nervous I'd get stuck b/c I was driving around for 10 min. There was something at Constitution Hall that afternoon that was letting out right around 4:00, and the Taste of DC or some outdoor festival was on Pennsylvania and 14th Street.
However, I found a great spot on the corner of 17th and Constitution... got really lucky!

Well congrats to all the Final Four. And nice work, Below Us!!
Makes me feel better that the eventual champion hosed us off.

Makes me feel better that the eventual champion hosed us off. We lost to the team that lost... to the team that lost... to the team that lost... to the team that won. But we beat the eventual winners... so I guess that counts for something.

Thanks for the recap! I wish I woulda been there to see the games...ah well.
Its just too bad no one from around here is doing the tournament...it'd have been nice to see our top contenders match-up against the other leagues in DC and other states too!

Regionals were...interesting to say the leasts. There were some really really good teams there, but the rules were a little rough. They kept a very very strict 45 minutes/game rule so even when there was no game scheduled for a field, they called a lot of them at 4 innings (one of ours at 4.5 innings so we didnt get last ups WTF). They also didnt allow overtime so some teams went home due to a Rock Paper Scissors loss.
Of the 15 teams there, 14 were DC area and one was Richmond. I hope they realize this and move it back down to DC next year so teams arent excluded.

They also didnt allow overtime so some teams went home due to a Rock Paper Scissors loss. Are you sh!tting me?! You get that far into the playoffs and wind up getting sent home because one person on your team keeps choosing rock or some such nonsense? Man that's so weak it can't even lift the knife to cut the mustard....

Yeah, I heard Sack got knocked out in THREE-INNING game. Although I guess at least they got to kick the same number of times. I can't believe you played 4.5 without last up's.
WAKA f'ed up just about every aspect of the tournament this year... which is a shame, because it's the one aspect that is impossible for other leagues to match.

Yeah I might have understood the need to have a tiebreaker in the very early rounds (maybe), but the game that they called on us at 4.5 innings we were down 0-2 and had the heart of our order up. They justified it with "well if we'd called it in 4 innings you still would have lost" yeah thanks for the clarification there....asses.
To make it worse, the loser of that game had to wait an hour to play the championship in the losers bracket, and the winner had to wait 2 hours to play in the championship...its not like we didnt have the time to finish the game.

Who exactly at WAKA central is making these bone-headed decisions? I mean, let's write a letter of protest or something...
