When in doubt, take it to the people.
We will have people "reffing" the games on Friday. Mostly there to make sure there are no backboards, give a start count, and call ties. So my question, in a tie situation (and I feel anything close should be called a tie). How should it be resolved.
1) Sometimes people redo the entire round...not good for a tournament. 2) I think most of the time we do a 1 cup flipoff between the players that tied. 3) Would it be more fair to 2 a two cup flipoff between the tying players to make it more of a skill and less of a luck of one flip situation
Thoughts?

Option number 2. 1 cup flipoff between the tying players.

Option number 2. 1 cup flipoff between the tying players. Yeah, you won't hear me saying this often, but Meeeshell is correct. ;D

Yeah they plan on chanting "Don't stop...be-lieeevin'" as they flip their cups As much as I love the Journey (and have a vintage Journey raglan-style tee to prove it), I don't see how that would benefit. Perhaps if only to distract those other teams who seem downright enamored of that song. Nope, our methods are far more stealth.

Getting back on track..... I like option 2 as well. Another question... if a person clearly finished flipping before teh other person, but the cups ended up landing together, I'd call it to the person that finished flipping first... am I out of line to call that, instead of calling a tie? Just wanna make sure before controversy starts.... ;D

I think that its not when you start the flip, but when it ends. If the cup hasnt mostly settled (extreme example: rolling on its rim and then settling 2 feet down the table) then the flip isnt done. This gets into the gray area with people arguing over which cup settled first and all that. If there is a shred of doubt I'd just default to a tie and move on to the flipoff.

Hmmm... i'm thinking when the cups look like they landed together, but one person flips a lot quicker/slower than the other person. I think that actually happened this past sunday where the cups were within a fraction of a second, but it was clear one person had let go of their cup earlier than the other. At any rate, thanks for the clarification.

I still think the landing is the important part, just like you can lose the lead for drinking slow, you can lose the lead for flipping slow.

No, i completely agree, but this is a case of same landing, but clearly different flipping technique. No worries, mate. And, notice I'm posting at a "random" time! Where is Sh3lby to keep me company?
